A funeral service was Tuesday, Nov. 27 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wyoming. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gordon; children, Karl (Katy), Traci (Rodney) Besch and Joleen (Tom) Thordson; six grandchildren; brothers, Keithe (Suzie), Kerry (Cindy), and Kevin Hofeld; many nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Wayne; and her parents.

Myrtle E. Nelson, 90, Chisago City, former owner of Nelson’s Resort on Forest Lake, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007.
A funeral service was Tuesday, Nov. 27 at Mattson Funeral Home, Forest Lake. Interment was at Oak Park Cemetery, Forest Lake.
She is survived by her son, Duane (Nancy) Nelson and daughter, Jean Anderson, both of Chisago City; one sister, Deloris Keppler, Inver Grove Heights; five grandsons; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Grant; brother Ernest Johnson; and sister Mildred Olson.

Walter V. Bishop, 76, Forest Lake, born and raised in NE Minneapolis, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Victoria; brother, Richard.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Delores; children, Steven (Priscilla), John (Pat), Joyce (Richard) Dupont, Walter “Wally”, Jeff, Gordy (Shelley); nine grandchildren; and sister, Mary Ann Mickanen.
Walter was a US Army veteran, a longtime employee of Pacal Steel, and Stu’s Standard in Forest Lake. The family wishes to thank American Legion Post 225 for all they’ve done.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Oct. 1, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Interment was at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by American Legion Post 225.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Elmer Hershelman.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia L. (Mastenbrook) Hershelman; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Goluskin and her husband, Mark; grandson, Christopher Olsen; mother, Ruth Hershelman; brothers, Harold and his wife, Joanie and Newell; sister, Linda; many other family members and friends.
Jim was an active member of the Forest Lake Gun Club where he served as past president. He also served on the Wyoming Township Planning Commission.
A funeral service for Jim was held Friday, Sept. 28, at the Roberts Family Funeral Home in Forest Lake.
Interment with Military Honors was held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Mathew L. Kijenski, age 34, of Mankato, formerly of Hugo, passed away August 5, 2007 as a result of the Amyloidosis affecting his heart.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; paternal grandfather; and grandfather-in-law.
Matt is survived by his wife of six years, Carrie; their sons, Logan and Chase; parents, Len & Jessica; sister, Heidi; paternal grandmother; Myrtle Kijenski; Auntie Karen Kijenski (Mike Christiansen); parents-in-law, Dennis & Sue Schmitz; grandmother-in-law, Loretta Schmitz; brother-in-law, Ryan (Jodi) Schmitz, and their daughter, Avery; and hundreds of other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Matt was born September 8, 1972 in Minneapolis. He was raised in Hugo and graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1990.
Matt met Carrie Schmitz in Mankato in 1995. They married there on September 29, 2001. They welcomed their sons, Logan in 2003 and Chase in 2006.
Matt started his career as an elementary teacher. He spent many years with Applebee’s Corp. and recently worked at Midwest Accounts Service in Mankato.
But first and foremost, his passion was teaching.
Matt had an incredible enthusiasm for life and family. He had a loving spirit and twisted sense of humor, so let’s all raise our glasses to Matt.

She was the former Auxillary President of the VFW Post 4210 of Forest Lake and a longtime waitress in Forest Lake and Wyoming.

Fran Podzimek-Stangler
Fran Podzimek-Stangler, age 46, of Forest Lake died on July 6, 2007 following a courageous 8-year battle with cancer.
She is now reunited in Heaven with her brother, Brian (1982).
Fran is survived by her beloved husband of 9 1/2 years, Keith; parents, Jean and Eugene Podzimek; brothers Mark (Debbie) Podzimek, Andrew, Rebecca of Rogers, and Dan (Cheri) Podzimek; Tori, Tanner of Minnetonka, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Fran was born in Minneapolis, grew up and attended school in Wayzata. She was married on October 4, 1997.
Fran also enjoyed being a massage therapist at Lagrange for nine years. She was a member of the KC Auxiliary and her deep faith in God led her to be a active member in her parish.
Thank you to Parker Hughes Cancer Center for an additional five years with Fran.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12 from 3 to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Roberts Family Funeral Home, located at 555 Centennial Drive SW, in Forest Lake.
Another visitation will be held on Friday, July 13 from 9 to 10 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, located at 1250 South Shore Drive in Forest Lake.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Forest Lake.
A memorial to the family or perennials and live plants will be planted in Fran’s Angel Memorial Garden.

Marilyn “Mim” Hanson
Born July 30, 1933 in Melby, MN.
Hanson was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Ruth Johnson; and grandson Jay Brian Kaiser Hanson.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years Bruce; children, Mark (Barbara), Michael, Nancy (Dan) Johnson, Cheryl (Allan) Burger, Barbara (John) House, Paige (Joe) Bernier; sisters, Elaine (Les) Webber, Evelye Thomas; brother Rev. Benjamin (Suzanne) Johnson; 20 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, cousins and other “children” too numerous to list.
Mim’s life touched many wherever she lived and worked; Melby, Minneapolis, Spring Lake Park, Forest Lake, Lino Lakes, and Vergus, Corrections (Lino Lakes), treatment (New Pioneer House), Social Director and Management of Surfside Seaplane Base, and a member of the Sons of Norway, Vennalag 546, Lindstrom.
She was affectionately known by her family as the estate sale and garage sale queen.
She will be missed.
At the age of 73 she departed on a beautiful sunny afternoon, June 20, 2007, at Surfside Seaplane Base, her home for the last 30 years.
Several float planes were taking off just as though they were taking Mim on her next trip, to Paradise. A peaceful ending, surrounded by her family, to a beautiful life.
Memorial services were held at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Circle Pines. Memorials are preferred to Christina Lake Lutheran in Melby or St. Mark Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Beckman; his daughter, Heidi Beckman of Duluth; step-son, Jason (Lorraine) Haraldson; step-daughter, Amy (Peter) Koegel; grandchildren, Brian and Adam Robertson; step-grandchildren, Tyler Woxland, Hannah and Jared Haraldson and Isabel Koegel; “the son he never had,” Dan Erspamer and nieces and nepehews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernhard and Opal Beckman and his step-sisters.
A visitation with reviewal will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday, May 17at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake. A memorial service honoring his life will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 18 at Roberts Family Funeral Home.
Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Forest Lake. Memorials to Forest Lake Masonic Lodge.

Helen L. (Leif) Erickson
Helen L. (Lief) Erickson, 88, of Edina, formerly of Forest Lake, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2007.
She was preceded in death by parents Andrew and Anna Erickson and four brothers, three of whom died in their 90s.
She is survived by five nephews and nieces and families.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 14 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington.
Internment was held at the Scandinavian Cemetery in Forest Lake.

Eugene Guttsen
Eugene “Gene” Guttsen, 75, of Forest Lake, died Monday, May 14, 2007.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilynn Fertch.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce; daughter, Kerri (Randy) Johnson; son, Kenneth (Sue); grandchildren, Chantel and Amber Johnson, Bradley and Mikayla Guttsen; great granddaughter, Kendra Kvale; sister, Phylliss (George) Shepherd; brother, Wayne (Sue); and brother-in-law, Wes (Karen) Fertch.
Memorial service was held on Wednesday, May 16 at Crossroads Evangelical Covenant Church
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association, Crossroads Covenant Church Kitchen, or donor’s favorite charity.

Elmer D. Solem, Jr., 78, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Forest Lake, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007.
He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Johnson of Forest Lake, Cheryl Simpson of Chisago City, son, Douglas of Port Charlotte; sister, Emmy Jasperson of Maplewood; brothers, Edward of Port Charlotte; Warren of Cambridge; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores and daughter Sue Kotzer.
