If there were ever a show that is simultaneously filled with impeccable talent that can carry an overly-long show, it’s “Palm Royale,” a new drama on Apple TV+ based on the novel “Mr. & Mrs. American Pie” by Juliet McDaniel.

The drama series, set in 1969 Palm Beach, Florida, features Kristen Wiig as Maxine Simmons, a former pageant queen and town newcomer who desires nothing but to fit into high society and will go to great lengths to do so. We find Maxine about 20 years into her shotgun marriage to Douglas (Dellacorte) Simmons (Josh Lucas), an apparent heir to a fortune in Palm Beach. But the two have a lot of secrets to hide, with designer tastes on a budget.
