I stumbled upon Blake Crouch’s “Dark Matter,” a science-fiction book grounded in time travel, back in 2019 and read it cover to cover in just a couple days. The story follows Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), a lowly professor at a no-name university in Chicago. His joy in life is his family: a wife, Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) and a son Charlie (Oakes Fegley). When his life is turned upside down after being attacked one night walking home from a bar, he furiously tries to get home to his wife and son.

As someone who has been burned by the book-to-screenplay journey, I was nervous when I heard a few years ago that it was being adapted into a TV show.
